Dr. Almeida attributes his success to his father, who is not in the medical field but was always dedicated to his profession in economics. His father was also his role model in his life, especially due to the hard work, dedication and work ethics. In the medical field, the one who inspired him to go into neurosurgery was Dr. Camelo, his professor in neurosurgery. His first research that was awarded was under Dr. Camelo’s mentorship.
Dr. Almeida considers that his most notable achievements were when he received an academic excellence award for best research in medicine in 2008 and when he decided to get his PhD and received it in 2019 with neuroprotection, while at the same time working with intracerebral hemorrhage for neonatal model, and being selected as the best physicist for that year.
In the coming years, Dr. Almeida’s main goal would be to combine both training in neurosurgeon and radiation oncology, functional radiosurgery that they normally use for treating tumors with the radiation oncology but for treatment of functional disorders, for example, some psychiatric disorders for which he is searching for strategies to decrease toxicity in the radiation.
