Padraic Chisholm, Physician at Women’s Clinic of South Texas, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in women’s health practice and administration.

After initially obtaining a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a minor in Latin, magna cum laude, from Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee in 2008, Dr. Chisholm followed with a Medical Doctor from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 2013. He then completed an OBGYN residency with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston in 2017. He earned a two-year Certification on Community Leadership and Health Administration in the Physician Leadership Advocacy Course with the Medical College of Georgia and later a board certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2020.

Since 2017, Dr. Chisholm has provided superior care as a general OBGYN medical practitioner with the Women’s Clinic of South Texas in Edinburg, where he has excelled as medical and laboratory director since 2019. In addition, since 2022 he has been a volunteer medical faculty member with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine in Edinburg.

Dr. Chisolm has co-authored several texts on science and women’s health issues that include “Improving Documentation of Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIS) Using a Standardized Electronic Template at Two University-Affiliated Institutions” in 2019; a chapter in “Episiotomy, Emergency Medicine Procedures, Third Edition,” the same year, and authored the poster presentation, “WNT Pathway in the Regeneration of Bipolar Cells in Zeebrafish Retina” with the Vision Discovery Institute at the Medical College of Georgia in 2010.

Counting among his achievements being the first surgeon in South Texas to implant a lifetime adjustable female mid-urethral sling for urinary incontinence in 2020 and also the first surgeon in South Texas to perform laparoendoscopic single-incision surgery in 2019, Dr. Chisholm has garnered awards such as Excellence in Contributions to Resident Education for Gynecology from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine Residency Program in 2018 and 2019 and Excellence in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery During Residency from the American Urogynecologic Society in 2016.

Dr. Chisholm maintains his success has largely arrived because of his positive attitude, work ethic and strong support system. When times were hard, such as it has been throughout the pandemic, he made it a point not to worry and he always trusted himself. He was surrounded by helpful people dedicated to their job. Dr. Chisholm headed for the health care arena owing to his mathematical aptitude and penchant for solving problems. He wanted to be in a field that not only challenged his cerebral capabilities but also enables him to make a greater impact. Women’s health care attracted him during the third year of his rotation. He particularly appreciated the vastness of the field and the fact that it offered the opportunity to combine multiple aspects of medicine. He took over as a solo practitioner at the Women’s Clinic of South Texas two years after he joined the practice.

Dr. Chisholm’s most important achievement as an obstetrician and gynecologist is being able to introduce the laparoscopic single-site approach to his clinic. He is also the only surgeon in South Texas who can perform hysterectomy through the belly button laparoscopically, unaided by a robot. Dr. Martinez, his mentor and predecessor, pioneered the bringing of the latest technology and the most advanced medicines into the underserved areas of South Texas, and he hopes to continue the tradition throughout his practice. In the coming years, Dr. Chisholm intends to continue to promote new technologies in his area. In particular, he plans to use mesh-free types of incontinence kits, along with bringing in another midwife or possibly a partner who graduates from the local residency and may want to continue the practice.
