Title: Pediatrician
Company: Mercy Hospital Springfield
Location: Springfield, Missouri, United States

Kaleen Long, Pediatrician at Mercy Hospital Springfield, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in children’s health care.

After obtaining bachelor’s degrees in English and Italian from Yale University in 2008, Dr. Long followed with a post-baccalaureate pre-medical degree from Georgetown University in 2010. She continued her education with a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in 2015 and subsequently a Residency in Pediatrics at the same school in 2018. She is board certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and is licensed to practice in Missouri and is currently a practicing pediatrician with Mercy Hospital Springfield. Her professional memberships include the American Academy of Pediatrics, Academic Pediatric Association, Missouri State Medical Association and Downtown Springfield Association.

In addition to excelling as a physician, Dr. Long and her sister, Kelle Rathe, own and operate J.L. Long Traders in Springfield, a retail store that distributes handcrafted items such as home goods for kitchen, living, bathroom, pet, kids, and garden; paper products for celebration or office; leather goods; furniture; and locally themed items. The store capitalizes on a tradition established by the sisters’ great-great-grandfather J.L. Long, who established a furniture store in Springfield in 1903.

Dr. Long attributes her success to the support of the people around her including her family and her colleagues. She also attributes her success to her passion for helping others, which keeps her motivated each day. In addition, she attributes her success to her advocacy work as well as her commitment to being a voice for her patients.

Dr. Long became involved in her profession because of her interest in the field of science and medicine and her passion to incorporate it with helping others. She enjoyed the diverse liberal arts education provided at Yale University and pursued a dual degree in English and Italian during her undergraduate studies. Nevertheless, her passion for the medical field prevailed, leading her to complete a post-baccalaureate pre-medical degree from Georgetown University. While growing up, Dr. Long always gravitated toward helping children. After she started medical school, she realized pediatrics is where her passion lies.

As a career highlight, Dr. Long cites her advocacy work over the years. In medical school, she took an opportunity to volunteer with the Indian Health Service on the Menominee Reservation in Wisconsin for a summer. She also worked with the American Academy of Pediatrics during her residency and was sent to Washington for a legislative advocacy internship. She is most proud to be able to work with the local community to promote early childhood education and services. In the coming years, Dr. Long hopes to continue her work as a physician in order to continue to help others and make a difference in the lives of the children in the community.
