Jason B. Loflen, DO, Physician at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in addiction medicine.

At the start of his medical journey, Dr. Loflen earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of California, San Diego in 2003, followed by a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. Continuing his requirements, he completed a residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he has since excelled as a physician and emergency medicine specialist in the trauma center since 2013. In addition, he has worked with a Suboxone Addiction Outreach Clinic since 2013. Dr. Loflen is certified in emergency medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine and holds a Pennsylvania State Medical License.

Dr. Loflen recalls he was initially drawn to the field of osteopathic medicine by the comprehensive way the physician looks at the human body and its problems. The philosophy of osteopathic medicine gained Dr. Loflen’s respect because of how it affords its specialists the ability to perceive the body holistically instead of treating each system as its own individual problem. One of Dr. Loflen’s areas of interest and line of work is addiction medicine, having had firsthand experience in addiction himself. He has been sober for years and considers his service at a Suboxone Addiction Outreach Clinic a very important personal undertaking.

Finding great success in his professional endeavors, Dr. Loflen has been honored by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on multiple occasions with a Best Research Award and the Josie King Good Catch Award, which is a recognition given by the nursing staff and administrators for “catching something that was missed.” Attributing his success to his genuine enjoyment and passion for his work, he greatly appreciates the path that medicine has blessed him with, which has been integral to his growth and achievements. Looking toward the future, Dr. Loflen aims to complete his book, while also continuing to practice emergency medicine and leave a broader footprint in addiction medicine, whether it manifests through lectures or authorship.
