Hailing from England, Dr. Whitfield obtained a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in chemistry in 1963 from King’s College, University of London, and followed with a Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry in 1969 from Queen Mary College, University of London. After immigrating to the United States, he continued his education with a Doctor of Medicine from New York Medical College in 1976, where he earned the Surgical Society Award, presented annually to the member of the graduating class who has shown the greatest proficiency in the art and study of surgery.
From 1963 to 1966, Dr. Whitfield provided superior service as a research scientist with Unilever Ltd. in Hertfordshire, England. At Temple University in Philadelphia, he excelled as a postdoctoral fellow and instructor, and assistant professor in the department of chemistry from 1969 to 1973. Dr. Whitfield prospered as an instructor with the College of Allied Health, Health Professions Division at Nova Southeastern University in North Miami from 1994 to 1995 and clinical assistant professor with the department of orthopedic surgery with Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ft. Lauderdale from 1995 to the present.
In practice, Dr. Whitfield provided superior care as a surgical resident from 1976 to 1978, a resident in orthopedics from 1978 to 1979, a senior resident from 1979 to 1980 and a chief resident from 1980 to 1981 with New York Medical College Affiliated Hospitals. From 1981 to the present, he has served as an attending orthopedic surgeon with John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Lake Worth, Florida, and has also served in that capacity with Saint Mary’s Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, Columbia Hospital, Palms West Hospital, Bethesda Health City and Palms Wellington Surgical Center.
An avid traveler and pilot, Dr. Whitfield attributes his success to his work ethic, intelligence and opportunity for a wonderful education. Now mostly retired from surgery, he is hoping for continued success with his in-office orthopedic practice.
