Franklin Dewees Barnett, MD, Gynecologist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in women’s health.
Following obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1957 from Asbury College, now known as Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky, Dr. Barnett continued his education with a Doctor of Medicine in 1961 from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He served an internship from 1961 to 1962 with the University of Kansas School of Medicine at Wichita and excelled for two years with the United States Air Force before completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology from 1964 to 1967 with the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Norman. Dr. Barnett taught chemistry, algebra and general mathematics in Harrodsburg, Kentucky following graduating from Asbury College.
Dr. Barnett became interested in the medical profession in Kentucky after cutting his foot on a broken whiskey bottle as a child after jumping from a tree. As the doctor sewed up his foot he was so fascinated by what the doctor was doing from that moment on Dr. Barnett knew that his calling was medicine. After becoming an obstetrician and gynecologist he flourished in private practice in Midwest City, Oklahoma, for over three decades from 1967 to 2000, during which time he delivered over 8,000 babies and performed countless medical procedures. He also provided superior education as a clinical associate professor with the University of Oklahoma Medical School and assisted his community as a city councilman from Midwest City from 1988 to 1992.
To remain aware of changes and advancements in his field, Dr. Barnett maintains affiliation with the American Medical Association, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists and the American Fertility Society. In addition, he has been selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who’s Who in the South and Southwest. Now retired, Dr. Barnett is hoping to live a full life with his wife and children and wants to keep improving and trying to be a better person.
