Ralph D. Harris, Medical and Business Coach and Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical research.
Dr. Harris initially obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Cape Town in South Africa in 1960. After immigrating to the United States in 1967, he underwent pediatric nephrology training in Chicago, as well as general pediatric training, earning a medical doctorate and Master of Business Administration from the University of La Verne in California in 1974.
Following his acquisitions of degrees in South Africa, Dr. Harris provided excellent care for six years at hospitals in Malawi and Zambia in East Africa as medical director at two mission hospitals. After completing graduate studies in Chicago, he excelled as associate professor in pediatrics, nephrology and public health at Loma Linda University, California and as a visiting professor in continuing medical education in Far East Asia and as a relief physician at mission hospitals in Far East Asia Including Hong Kong, Tokyo, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam and as a visiting professor of pediatric nephrology in China.
After prospering as medical director for a health maintenance organization in Riverside, California, and relocating to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where he worked in private pediatrics practice, real estate, financial advice, and medical and business consultation for 22 years before retiring in San Diego, California. Dr. Harris now keeps himself busy assisting others with the problems of aging.
Dr. Harris considers his career highlight to be research he participated in that combined lifestyle medicine with diet and exercise, motivation, and education. The research was conducted in the Marshall Islands in 2006, which had a 50 percent incidence of type II diabetes in the country. Through changes in lifestyle, incidence of diabetes was greatly reduced in the country. He is also the recent author of the first volume of his autobiography, “Maximizing Life: My Life in South Africa, the Land of the Rainbow Nation,” published in 2021.
