After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Carroll College in Helena, Montana in 1989, Dr. Javid followed with a medical doctorate from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1994. He then followed with an internship at Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona and completed an ophthalmology residency at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, after which Dr. Javid performed his retina fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary/Harvard Medical School, Boston. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, has been practicing in Tucson since 1999 and also assists in training ophthalmology residents and medical students from the University of Arizona. In addition, he earned a Master of Business Administration from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona in 2021.
Dr. Javid has contributed to numerous medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Case Reports in Infectious Diseases, Brachytherapy, Annals of Ophthalmology and the Southern Medical Journal. His professional memberships include the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association,Arizona Ophthalmology Society, Arizona State Medical Society, Pima County Medical Society, American Association for Physician Leadership and the International Society of Ocular Oncology.
Dr. Javid evinced a keen interest in the functions of the body and knew he wanted to be a physician from a young age. As a child he would ask his father questions about how the human body worked, but his father, not being a doctor, naturally didn’t know the answers, but he was always willing to buy him books to answer his questions. As an ophthalmologist, being able to restore someone’s vision is very gratifying. In coming years, Dr. Javid intends to continue his passion for clinical medicine and caring for his patients at Retina Associates.
