Raymond Adelizzi, DO, FACOI, FACR, Director at Rheumatology and Arthritis Center of New Jersey, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medicine.

Dr. Adelizzi obtained a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 1973 and after internship and residency received rheumatology fellowship training at Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital. He has excelled in practice for over three decades as director of the Rheumatology and Arthritis Center of South Jersey with offices in Stratford and Woodbury, a premier treatment center for diseases of the bones, joints, muscles and tissues as well as systemic inflammatory diseases. Dr. Aderizzi also imparts his knowledge as a clinical associate professor of medicine at Rowan University/SOM in Stratford.

Dr. Adelizzi’s areas of expertise include treatment of arthritis, especially the use of nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory agents and more recently use of biologic agents. In addition, he has come to be recognized as a regional expert in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, serving on the Osteoporosis Coalition for the New Jersey Department of Health and the lead author for a NJDOH publication on osteoporosis. In addition, Dr. Adelizzi was the founder and director for many years of one of the first self-help group for osteoporosis in the country, the New Jersey Osteoporosis Society.

As previous president of the South Jersey chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America, Dr. Adelizzi also has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of lupus and also was a regional lecturer on treating gout. Since 1982, he has participated in numerous drug trials, majority of  which are on NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Dr. Adelizzi has composed numerous articles on arthritis and the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents and biologic agents.

Dr. Adelizzi is a board-certified rheumatologist, is certified in internal medicine and rheumatology by the Board of Internal Medicine, American Osteopathic Association and is licensed to practice medicine in New Jersey, and was previously also licensed in Pennsylvania. Among his many honors are Excellence in Teaching Award, Exceptional Merit Award and Distinguished Service Award, all from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine); Educator of the Year Award, Suburban General Hospital; Distinguished Public Service Award, Arthritis Foundation; and a plaque from the State of New Jersey for his contributions to the treatment of osteoporosis.

Dr. Adelizzi sees himself as a very driven person, but he believes it was mostly the women in his life:  his mother and wives (he married and was widowered twice) who made his profession a huge success. He could not have made it without their loving support. His mother, in particular, always believed he was going to be an excellent physician since he was five.

Dr. Adelizzi defines several highlights as his greatest professional achievements. One involves having been a well sought-after lecturer on rheumatology in the national and international arena. Additionally, he has been a consultant for numerous pharmaceutical companies over the years, which has resulted to being frequently invited in meetings and participating in clinical research studies. He has likewise published 41 medical articles, most of which were authored primarily by him. Dr. Adelizzi has often been interviewed on television for his expertise in practice and his experience in 30 clinical studies. In the coming years, he wishes to be able to increase his involvement in charity work by volunteering as a teacher.
