Sandeep Nair, Cardiologist at New Mexico Heart Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electrophysiology.
Dr. Sandeep Govindan Nair began his career as a cardiologist and electrophysiologist in India; subsequently augmenting his training with an advanced fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, before joining the New Mexico Heart Institute (Lovelace Medical Center) and the University of New Mexico as a certified cardiac electrophysiology specialist in 2018. Holding considerable expertise in cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Nair, attributes much of his success to his consistent drive and perseverance to establish a career practicing and teaching cardiology, with an emphasis in electrocardiograms (EKG). Furthermore, he also credits his diligence, humility, and zest to learn, to the excellent mentors he has had through the years, including Dr. Thomas Peter, a Professor Emeritus of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a pioneer in EKG. Motivated throughout his career by his desire to take care of his patients and do everything he can to help others, he is incredibly grateful for his experience working with diverse patient populations that has helped him become a humble and empathetic physician.
Dr. Nair’s area of interest is EKG and the cardiac conduction physiology that it illustrates. Hailing from a family of physicians, he developed an early interest in medicine. As a Cardiologist, he recognized the importance of EKGs as an incredibly useful diagnostic tool and found it indispensable in delivering personalized care for each cardiac patient. The study of rate and rhythm abnormalities and the use of this information to guide therapeutics and interventions is of special interest to Electrophysiologists like Dr. Nair. Being a practicing Electrophysiologist for the past 8 years, Dr. Nair is an expert in EKG, intracardiac electrograms and interventional cardiac procedures such as ablation of complex arrhythmias and implantation of various devices (pacemakers, defibrillators).
To keep abreast of developments in his field, Dr. Nair maintains professional membership with the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Cardiology and Heart Rhythm Society. He has been a peer reviewer for various international journals in the field of Electrophysiology. Among all the accomplishments in his illustrious career, he considers his most notable achievement to be winning the Early Career Best Science Award at AHA for his research “Risk Factors of Sudden Cardiac Death in the Young,” which he co-authored with his wife, Dr. Reshmy Sandeep.
Moving forward, Dr. Nair’s goal is to contribute to the advancement of Electrophysiology. Additionally, he aspires to establish an Electrophysiology fellowship to provide advanced training for Cardiologists in cardiac rhythm abnormalities, their associated pathologies, and therapeutic interventions. Dr. Nair’s advice for young and aspiring professionals is to remain humble, strive for excellence, and always persevere. Dr. Nair hopes to leave a legacy as an altruistic physician and person, one who is empathetic and compassionate towards his patients.
