Roland S. Kent, Owner at Axis Spine Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in spinal surgery.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology, with an emphasis on archeology, magna cum laude, from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 1997, Dr. Kent enlisted in the United States Navy and earned a Doctor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland and followed with an internship and residency at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He then graduated from the combined Neurosurgery and Orthopaedic Spine Fellowship at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, where he performed complex surgical care at Harborview, the University of Washington, and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Competing his Navy service as Chief of Spine Surgery at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, he taught spine surgery to resident physicians and built a comprehensive spine surgical practice specializing in cutting-edge technologies and time-honored surgical strategies. During his two decades in the Navy as a flight surgeon, orthopedic resident and orthopedic spine fellow, he served in Washington, DC, Virginia, Diego Garcia, Italy, Cuba, Afghanistan and finally in Spokane as a Navy reservist.
From 2015 to 2017, Dr. Kent provided superior care as a comprehensive spine surgeon with the Rockwood Clinic, Spokane, where he helped develop the interdisciplinary spine surgical program at Rockwood Neurosurgery and Spine, integrating the efforts of surgical and non-surgical spine specialists. In 2017, he founded Axis Spine Center in northwest Idaho, where he specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery, robotic-assisted spine surgery (which he considers a career highlight), revision spine surgical care, complex spinal disorders, alternatives to bony fusion including disc replacement, fracture care, bone health and sacroiliac (SI) joint disease. In the coming years, Dr. Kent hopes to transition to a position in which he has more influence over the local provision of healthcare.
