Location: Loma Linda, California, United States
Dr. Aditya Bharawaj, Associate Professor and Director of Complex Coronary Interventions at Loma Linda International Heart Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in interventional cardiology.
Presently, Dr. Bharawaj is providing superior care as director of complex coronary interventions with the Loma Linda University International Heart Institute, performing procedures for patients with complex coronary disease that are referred to him from Loma Linda and other nearby hospitals because these procedures are too complicated to be attempted in their own hospitals. His specialties include treating peripheral arterial and venous disease, structural and valvular heart disease and chronic venous insufficiency. In addition, Dr. Bharawaj trains residents in his capacity as an associate professor.
In what he considers a career highlight, in 2019 Dr. Bharawaj made headlines when he pioneered a new access point for inserting a single-access heart assist device when a patient, a Vietnam War veteran, presented after suffering a heart attack. The patient’s severe arterial blockages prevented cardiologists from employing the femoral artery to insert the device that is the usual medical procedure, so Dr. Bharawaj used the axillary artery near the collarbone. The successful outcome was instrumental in his efforts to set up the complex coronary intervention program at Loma Linda University Health.
Dr. Bharawaj obtained his medical doctorate from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, India, in 2007 and subsequently served a residency in Internal Medicine with the Detroit Medical Center in 2012, a fellowship in cardiology from Loma Linda University Health in 2015 and a fellowship in interventional cardiology from Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, in 2016. His certifications include internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
