John P. Leonetti, MD, Ear and Skull Base Surgeon at Loyola University Medical Center and Loyola Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in head and neck surgery.

Dr. Leonetti is a board-certified otolaryngologist, head, and neck surgeon with more than 35 years of specialization in complex skull base and ear surgery. After graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Augustana College in 1979, Dr. Leonetti earned his Doctor of Medicine at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, where he remained until 1987 completing specialist residencies surgery, otolaryngology, and head and neck surgery. That year, he was awarded a research fellowship in neurotology by the House Institute and a clinical fellowship in skull base surgery buy the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. 

In 1988, Dr. Leonetti was named Director of Clinical Research at Loyola University Medical Center, and he became Medical Director for the hospital’s Department of Audiology and Speech the following year. He has maintained a clinical otolaryngology and skull base surgery practice at Loyola University Medical Center since 1987 and served as co-director of the facility’s Cranial Base Surgery Center between 1990 and 1992. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Leonetti has been a professor at the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine since 1988 and has consulted with the NFL and numerous professional journals on topics related to traumatic brain injury, head and neck injury, and facial paraganglioma. 

Dr. Leonetti is affiliated with the Parmly Hearing Institute, AMITA Resurrection Medical Center, and the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, among others, and is a former member of the Loyola University Physicians Foundation Board of Directors. In recognition of his excellence in his specialty, Dr. Leonetti has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, most recently a 2021 Health Care Hero Award from Loyola Medicine and his 2019 induction to the Loyola Center for Cranial Base Tumors NASBS Team Honor Roll. In 2021, Dr. Leonetti celebrated treating his 11,000th ENT patient, and he looks forward to continuing his clinical work and research leadership for years to come.
