Dr. Vithyalakshmi Selvaraj, Chief Medical Officer, Founder and Owner at Omaha Insomnia and Psychiatric Services, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatry.
A restauranteur and a board-certified psychiatrist, Dr. Selvaraj excels within her two professions. Since 2013, she has been the owner, founder and chief medical officer of Omaha Insomnia and Psychiatric Services, where she invests in education and cutting-edge treatment modalities for such mental health disorders as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato treatments. In addition, she has been a psychiatrist with the Alegent Creighton Health Clinic since 2012, building off earlier experience as a psychiatrist at the Omaha Veterans Hospital from 2010 to 2012.
In addition to her primary roles, Dr. Selvaraj served as an associate professor of psychiatry and associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Creighton University School of Medicine. For her achievements, she was named Omaha’s Top Psychiatrist and is also a recipient of the Bloc’s 50 Over 50 NE Up-and-Coming Trailblazer Award. While her career has been filled with highlights, she is most proud that, as her practice has grown, she has consistently striven to make a positive change in the lives of so many patients.
Before embarking upon her professional journey, Dr. Selvaraj completed postgraduate coursework in England and received psychiatric training in Northwest Wales. In 2010, she attained a doctoral degree from Creighton University. A prolific writer, as well, Dr. Selvaraj wrote a book with Lippincott Williams about practicing board exams for students and nurse practitioners, “Psychopharmacology: 501 Questions to Help You Pass the Boards.” Driven to remain aware of changes in the field, she is highly active with the Neuroscience Education Institute and the American Psychiatric Association.
In the near future, Dr. Selvaraj aims to expand Omaha Insomnia and Psychiatric Services to different markets and continue to improve the mental health of as many individuals as possible, while also doing much more work with her non-profit. She also looks forward to establishing a practice facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Additionally, Dr. Selvaraj plans to continue contributing to others as a volunteer counselor during natural disasters, donating more than 2,000 meals to local shelters and assisted living facilities. In her spare time, she enjoys dancing, listening to music, walking and appreciating nature.
