Passionate about becoming a doctor since his youth, Dr. Bortecen achieved a Doctor of Medicine from Istanbul University in his native Turkey in 1994. He went on to serve as a resident in surgery at Istanbul University and the Yale School of Medicine through 2002, later attaining a Doctor of Philosophy in immunology from the University of Oxford in 2005. From there, Dr. Bortecen completed a fellowship in transplant surgery from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management in 2011.

Now an internationally recognized, Ivy league trained surgeon-scientist, Dr. Bortecen currently excels in various roles including as the owner, founder, surgical director and physician of SoHo Men’s Health since 2020, as well as a staff surgeon and director of the Liver and Kidney Interventional Oncology Program at NYC Surgical Associates since 2017. On the educational level, he has taught as an adjunct assistant professor of surgery at the NYU Long Island School of Medicine since 2018, having previously taught as an assistant professor of surgery at Dartmouth College from 2007 to 2009.

In the earlier years of his career, Dr. Bortecen was a surgeon and director of the Lipedema Program at NYC Surgical Associates from 2017 to 2020, an attending surgeon at Metropolitan Hospital from 2016 to 2017 and a surgeon at NYU Langone Health from 2014 to 2016. Between 2008 and 2014, he was a staff surgeon at SSM Health Saint Mary’s Hospital in Illinois and an attending surgeon at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in New Hampshire. To remain abreast of his industry, he maintains affiliation with the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Transplant Surgeons, the Transplant Society, the European Society for Vascular Surgery and the Association for Academic Surgery, among others.

Notably, Dr. Bortecen has received many national and international awards, including the Yale Surgery Teaching Award in 2002, the 12th Congress of the European Society for Organ Transplantation Award in 200 and the Transplantation Society Young Investigator Award in 2006. Attributing his success to many attributes, he credits his resiliency, perseverance, transparency, honesty, compassion, work ethic and more. In five years, Dr. Bortecen hopes to establish a brand of men’s health and growing his practice into several locations and hiring more staff, expanding services in terms of providing good services and continue with education and train new generations.
