Dr. Gibson is a clinical interventional cardiologist, researcher, and educator who has served as the CEO of the combined nonprofit Baim and PERFUSE Research Institutes at Harvard Medical School since 2017. Since 2006, he has been the chief clinical researcher at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and in 2007, he helped establish the WikiDoc Foundation, a free open-source medical resource where he remains editor in chief. Dr. Gibson is known for his work leading clinical trials and megatrials for drugs including prasugrel, rivaroxaban, and betrixaban.

Dr. Gibson began his career as the director of the critical care unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 1993, going on to serve as chief of the cardiovascular division and director of interventional cardiology at the Roxbury VA Hospital from 1996 to 1998. He was named vice-chair of medicine and director of invasive cardiology at Allegheny General Hospital in 1998 and spent the next seven years as associate chief of cardiology and chief of interventional cardiology at the University of California and associate chief of cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Dr. Gibson’s research has been frequently cited, and he is a Top 10 U.S. Social Media Influencer, an eleven-time Castle Connolly Top Doctor, and one of the World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds. He attributes his success to his passion for helping others and drive to make the world a better place. An alum of the University of Chicago, Dr. Gibson earned a Bachelor of Science in 1982, a Master of Science in 1984, and a Doctor of Medicine in 1986. He completed his internship and residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, becoming chief resident in 1993, and was a cardiology fellow at Beth Israel Hospital. Dr. Gibson has been previously profiled in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and he looks forward to continuing his work to secure the future of WikiDoc.
