William C. Cushman, MD, medical director and professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medicine.
Dr. Cushman joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 1988 as an associate professor, rising to professor of medicine and preventive medicine in 1994. Since 1997, he has also served as chief of the preventive medicine section of the Memphis VA Medical Center after acting as chief of the hypertension section of the Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center of Jacksonville for over a decade.
An alum of the University of Mississippi, Dr. Cushman earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1970 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1974 and completed his internship and residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center from 1974 to 1977. Dr. Cushman began his career as an instructor of medicine at the University of Mississippi in 1977, becoming an assistant professor in 1978 and an associate professor in 1986. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Heart Association.
Dr. Cushman has received numerous research grants over the course of his career and has been extensively published in professional journals. He sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine and the American Journal of Hypertension, and is active in the International Society and Federation of Cardiology, the American Federation of Medical Research, the American Society of Hypertension, the Inter-American Society of Hypertension, the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and Phi Kappa Phi.
