Dr. Jessica D. Blanding, the chair of pediatrics at Opelousas General Hospital System and staff pediatrician at Southwest Louisiana Primary Health Care Center, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric medicine.
Dr. Blanding was awarded a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering with an emphasis in biomedical engineering from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 2010. She completed the postbaccalaureate reapplication program at University of Southern California Los Angeles in 2012 prior to earning a Doctor of Medicine from UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine in 2016, and completed her residency in pediatrics at at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. With extensive experience working with neonatal and pediatric patients, Dr. Blanding is proud to perform both scheduled and emergency cesarean sections and caring for newborns and children. Above all, she is most proud to work as the youngest staff member at her hospital.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Blanding has found additional success as a material and process engineer at Boeing, a scribe for Scribe America and a unit secretary at Marina del Rey Hospital. Dr. Blanding is a presenter in her field, has been published in the Journal of Investigative Medicine, and is affiliated with the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Society of Black Engineers, the Tau Beta Pi National Honor Society for Engineering, the Association of Black Women Physicians and the National Health Service Corps. She attributes her success to the unwavering support of her family, and looks forward to continuing her work and improving the lives of many underserved members of her community.
