Dr. Dietmar A. Kumm, department director and head at Bethesda Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medicine and education.
With over 30 years of experience in the field, Dr. Kumm has dedicated his career to researching breakthroughs in the field of orthopedics. After returning home from serving in the German Air Force in 1978, he completed coursework at the University of Bonn, formerly known as Friedrich-Wilhelms University, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1984 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1985. During this time, he completed an internship and a residency in internal medicine at the University of Basel in Switzerland. He began his professional career as an assistant surgeon for Ev. Krhs. Bonn, holding the position until 1989.
Dr. Kumm has found success as the leading senior consultant at the Hospital for Special Orthopedic Surgery of Witten-Herdecke University and an assistant professor at the University of Cologne for nearly a decade. He is a regular contributor to scientific articles and professional journals and holds several patents for the invention of devices for total joint replacement and a sliding screw for the fixation of slipped capital femoral epiphysis.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Kumm has maintained professional affiliations with the International Bar Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the New York Academy of Sciences, the German Association of Sports Medicine and the German Association for Orthopedic Surgery. For his contributions in the field, he is honored to have been presented with the American Medal of Honor in 2005, and has been selected for inclusion in several volumes of Marquis Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
