Stephen Jae Kim, MD, Professor at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in ophthalmology.
From watching his father excel as a physician, Dr. Kim understood the importance of medicine and was encouraged to take on the medical field. With help, guidance, and mentorship from his father throughout his life, he developed an intellectual interest in ophthalmology and began to find happiness and joy in people who would see better after life-changing clinical procedures. Since 2008, he has excelled as an assistant and associate turned full professor at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Finding great success in his profession, Dr. Kim was the recipient of the Best Doctors Award and the Raymond Margherio Award from the Retina Society and received an Excellence in Clinical Instruction award from Vanderbilt University. Additionally, he has been listed to the Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists in 2011, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors, and Top Doctors in Nashville by National Lifestyle. He attributes his success to his dedication and ambition and the support of his colleagues. To remain abreast of his industry, he maintains affiliation with the American Medical Association, the American Society of Retinal Specialists, the Retina Society, and the Macular Society.
Dr. Kim earned a Bachelor of Science from Duke University in 1996 and a Doctor of Medicine from Johns Hopkins University in 2001. He went on to complete an internship in internal medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore and a residency in ophthalmology and fellowship in ocular inflammation, infectious diseases and uveitis at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, as well as a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the Emory Eye Center in Atlanta. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Kim can also be found in the 66th, 68th, 69th, and 70th editions of Who’s Who in America.
