Jason Kapnick, MD, oncologist and surgeon, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in gynecologic oncology.
Dr. Kapnick is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist who has dedicated more than 35 years to research and clinical work that revolutionized patient management in ovarian, breast, colon, and abdominal cancers. His interest in medicine was sparked by a desire to spend his life “fighting a worthy opponent” and the recognition that cancer was among the most universally hated things in the world. Dr. Kapnick holds a Bachelor of Liberal Studies in biology from Boston University and was awarded his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1981 at Harvard Medical School. He completed an internship in obstetrics and gynecology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, rising to Administrative Chief Resident and becoming Chief Resident of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Breast Evaluation Center in 1984. Throughout his career, Dr. Kapnick has completed several additional specialized clinical fellowships with the American Cancer Society, Harvard Medical School, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
He began his career in 1974 as a comparative anatomy instructor for Boston University and accepted a research assistant position with Harvard Medical School the following year, quickly rising to become a research associate in surgery. He remained at Harvard until 1987 as an associate in obstetrics and gynecology and gynecology instructor, returning to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in 1986 to become co-director of the facility’s Clinic for Diseases of the Cervix and secretary of the Gynecologic Tumor Board. Since 1994, Dr. Kapnick has been an assistant consulting professor in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology at Duke University Medical School, and since 2019, he has been the Senior Clinical Gynecologic Oncologist at the MD Anderson/Sacred Heart cancer center.
As one of the top experts in his specialty, Dr. Kapnick has served on dozens of committees and consulted for medical centers throughout Florida including St. Lucie Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, and Jupiter Hospital. He is the founder and director of the I. Kapnick Cancer Control Consortium and the Theresa Pratt RN Memorial Clinical Care Initiative, and continues to publish and speak extensively on his research. In recognition of his contributions to the field, Dr. Kapnick has been presented with dozens of awards and accolades, including the William H. Baker Award from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and named one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America in 2007. Dr. Kapnick credits his success to the inspiration of early mentor Professor Thomas Griffiths, and advises others in the field to see their patients for the warriors that they are and to “follow from heaven, commerce with the devil if you must, but do not let those noble warriors go cold and alone onto the grim and bloody field.”
