Delving into cardiology during his medical studies, Dr. Nguyen received a Doctor of Medicine from the Hue Medical School in Vietnam in 1978. He subsequently completed an internship and residency in internal medicine by 1985 and a fellowship in cardiology by 1987 at Brooklyn Hospital Center. He then commenced his professional career as clinical assistant professor of medicine at the Indiana School of Medicine in 1992. Dr. Nguyen then notably served the St. Mary Medical Center from 2002 to 2009 in role such as president of medical staff, director of cardiovascular research and director of cardiology.
Today, Dr. Nguyen excels as the director of cardiovascular research at Methodist Hospitals in Merrillville, Indiana and academic dean at Tan Tao University in Vietnam, roles he commenced in 2017. In addition, he had sat on the board of trustees and the international committee of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions between 2014 and 2016. Notably, Dr. Nguyen is a diplomate of the American Board Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology and a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Finding great success in his career, Dr. Nguyen was the recipient of the Award for the Contribution to the Improvement of the Capital City of Hanoi in 2017. Alongside his primary roles, he had also been involved with the Hanoi Medical College, Beijing Friendship Hospital, Nanjing University Hospital, Chao Yang Red Cross Hospital, Institute Geriatric Cardiology and more. Dr. Nguyen attributes his success to seeing what others do not as, discovery is the most important aspect of his work.
