With nearly 50 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Mathew has established himself as the first transplant nephrologist in the Roanoke area. He is affiliated with medical facilities such as the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. In his various roles, he treats patients with ailments such as hypertension, kidney stones and kidney failure in intensive care and dialysis units. Within his community, he regularly gives talks about kidney health, diabetes and proper dialysis. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and maintains his affiliations with the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Society of Nephrology and the National Academy of Medical Sciences in India.

Born and raised in India, Dr. Mathew has always been interested in pursuing a career in medicine and nephrology. He earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Christian Medical College Vellore in 1975. Upon Immigrating to North America, he obtained a Master of Science in medicine from the University of Alberta in 1985 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia in 1989. For his contributions, he is proud to have been recognized as a Top Nephrologist by America’s Top Doctors and a Top Doctor by Roanoke Magazine five times over the course of eight years. Additionally, he is proud of his research regarding immunology transplants and hypertension transplants which has been published in scholarly articles and presented at multiple nephrology conferences.
