Company: Sound Physicians
Location: Tacoma, Washington, United States

Dr. Omar Naji, Ambassador Hospitalist, Physician at Sound Physicians, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in sports medicine.

From watching his father excel as a physician, Dr. Naji knew from a very young age that he wanted to go into medicine. Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with an international business minor from the University of Houston in 2001, he then received a Doctor of Medicine from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 2007. After completing his sports medicine fellowship in 2013, Dr. Naji joined PeaceHealth, where he practiced family and sports medicine for a few years full-time. He remained at the clinic until 2018, in which he would also help on the weekends in picking up extra shifts. While there, Dr. Naji started working at Sound Physicians part-time from 2015 to 2018.

Since 2018, Dr. Naji has been an ambassador hospitalist and physician with Sound Physicians. Alongside his primary career, he spent a lot of time helping the community civically, as he set up local health clinics through medical school as the vice president of the university’s chapter. He also volunteered in health clinics in Brooklyn and volunteered in health clinics for the homeless in New Mexico. Reflecting on his career thus far, Dr. Naji says teaching is one of the highlights of his career. When he was with PeaceHealth, he was on the faculty of a brand new sports medicine program. He would teach residents how to do procedures and he is proud of that time in his life.

Dr. Naji attributes his success to never accepting failure, citing he had to work very hard to become a physician. Likewise, he credits the influence of his father, who he recalls as one of the most passionate people he has ever met. Dr. Naji always views his patients as his partners and he makes sure to share the knowledge and experience he has with them. Together, they make a decision on what to do. Looking toward the future, Dr. Naji sees himself getting back into sports medicine, while still doing hospital medicine. Ideally, he would like to find a permanent community where he could provide assistance in sports medicine. As a testament to his success, Dr. Naji received the Compassion Award during his residency program in 2013 and a Faculty Award from Sound Physicians.
