In 1986, Dr. Odor was bestowed with a Doctor of Philosophy from The Ohio State University and continued his clinical work as director of emergency services at Southeast Community Mental Health Center, and later, as psychologist and program director for Southeast Counseling Services where he would remain until 1992. He opened his private practice as a psychologist in 1989 as Psychological and Counseling Services and incorporated as Richard L. Odor, PhD, Inc. in 1998.  During this time, he also served as a clinical supervisor for New Source Counseling Centers 1990-99, central Ohio employee assistant program affiliate for McDonnell-Douglas Corporation 1992-94, senior consultant for the Global Consultant Partnership Inc., and president of Achieve Performance Consultants Inc.

Outside his mental health practice, Dr. Odor has been an active participant in the Olympic sport of weightlifting as athlete, coach, and referee.
