Dr. Odor is an independent psychologist and psychotherapist in private practice specializing in individual, family and relationship therapy, depression and anxiety disorders, trauma and evaluations for ADHD, pain and workers’ compensation claims. Since coming of age, he has sought a career that would allow him to help others. After completing coursework at the Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Odor transferred to the Ohio State University as a premedical studies major.
Dr. Odor quickly realized that he was more interested in values, culture and psychology, and subsequently changed majors. He completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1977 and a Master of Arts the following year. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Odor began his career as a counselor for children’s groups at Gladden Community House and inpatients at the Columbus Area Community Mental Health Center before returning to the Ohio State University, where he worked as a graduate research assistant to the Department of Family Relations and Human Development while completing his doctoral coursework.
In 1986, Dr. Odor was bestowed with a Doctor of Philosophy and returned to clinical work as a psychologist and program director for Southeast Counseling Services, where he would remain through 1992. He became a provider for Psychological and Counseling Services of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, in 1989, and continued to see patients through the clinic until 1998, when he entered individual private practice as Richard L. Odor, PhD, Inc. While in private practice, Dr. Odor also served as a mental health administrator and senior consultant for the Global Consultant Partnership Inc, and as the president of Achieve Performance Consultant Inc.
Outside his mental health practice, Dr. Odor is passionate about weightlifting and bodybuilding and was serving as the coach of a non-collegiate wrestling team at the Ohio State University at the time of their national championship victory in 1984. Likewise talented as an expert weightlifter, he has notably lifted more than 360 pounds, and earned six medals via the Pan American Masters Weightlifting Championships, through which he received gold medals in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Dr. Odor has been certified as a national referee for United States of America Weightlifting Inc. since 1997 and hopes to continue sharing his love of the sport with others.
