In 1986, Dr. Odor was bestowed with a Doctor of Philosophy from The Ohio State University and continued his clinical work as director of emergency services at Southeast Community Mental Health Center, and later, as psychologist and program director for Southeast Counseling Services where he would remain until 1992. He opened his private practice as a psychologist in 1989 as Psychological and Counseling Services and incorporated as Richard L. Odor, PhD, Inc. in 1998. During this time, he also served as a clinical supervisor for New Source Counseling Centers 1990-99, central Ohio employee assistant program affiliate for McDonnell-Douglas Corporation 1992-94, senior consultant for the Global Consultant Partnership Inc., and president of Achieve Performance Consultants Inc.
Outside his mental health practice, Dr. Odor has been an active participant in the Olympic sport of weightlifting as athlete, coach, and referee. As a talented expert weightlifter, he notably completed a 165 kg (363 lb) overhead competition lift and earned five medals via the International Weightlifting Federation’s Pan American Masters Weightlifting Championships, through which he received gold medals in 2003 and 2004 and two medals at the IFW World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Hungary and Australia in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Dr. Odor has been certified as a national referee for United States of America Weightlifting Inc. since 1997 and has participated as a referee at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio for nearly 20 years.
