Denise Bramley Deppoliti, PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, mental health nurse and therapist in the private practice of Dr. James Donovan, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatric care and education.
Dr. Deppoliti has dedicated more than 45 years to providing psychiatric care in hospital, clinic, and private practice settings and to equipping other providers with the resources and education to do the same. The daughter of a disabled Navy veteran, Dr. Deppoliti’s interest in medicine began after she saw the attentive care he received at the Bronx VA Hospital. A graduate of Syracuse University, Dr. Deppoliti earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1971 and returned for a Master of Science in 1977. She completed her education in 2003 with a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education. Inspired by her early experiences with her father’s care, Dr. Deppoliti began her career as a staff nurse for the VA Hospital in Syracuse, becoming the Coordinator of mental health and psychiatric nursing at the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1977.
For the next 12 years, Dr. Deppoliti remained at the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, adding a position as a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse in 1987. For the next three decades, Dr. Deppoliti rose through the ranks at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health center, becoming Director of Network Resources, Education, and Development in 1991, creating a new department for staff training and education where she would remain in charge until 2018. Currently Dr. Deppoliti is a therapist in private practice in the office of Dr. James Donovan in Liverpool, New York. She has contributed extensively to professional journals throughout her career and has published a textbook in the Mosby’s Review series on Mental Health Nursing in addition to spending several years teaching and consulting for private facilities. Dr. Deppoliti is the Past President of Syracuse Area Psychiatric Nurses, remains active in the Central New York Nurses Collaborative to Advance Research, and has been honored for her contributions to her field with an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who Top Professionals.
