Arthur M. Boudreaux, MD, FASA, Board-Certified Anesthesiologist and Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medicine, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in anesthesiology.

Dr. Boudreaux found his calling to medicine after taking a summer job at a large hospital in New Orleans while a student at the University of New Orleans, ultimately going on to complete a Bachelor of Science in microbiology at Louisiana State University. Dr. Boudreaux was awarded his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1980 by the Louisiana State University School of Medicine and spent the next three years pursuing an internship and residency in anesthesiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

In 1982, Dr. Boudreaux was named chief resident in anesthesiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He remained with the school after completing his training, becoming an instructor in 1983 and rising to hold a broad range of educational and administrative leadership positions over the next three decades. Currently, Dr. Boudreaux is both a professor of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine at UAB Medicine and Director of Resident Education in the school’s Department of Anesthesiology, building on prior terms with Carraway Methodist Medical Center and as assistant chief of staff for the University of Alabama Hospitals, vice-chair of education for the UAB Department of Anesthesiology and numerous other professorial positions.

Dr. Boudreaux has been invited to address professional groups including the Academy of Anesthesiology Annual Meeting, the staff of Weill Cornell Medical College, and most recently, the 2020 Premier Anesthesiology Annual Medical Director’s Conference. He has been extensively published in peer-reviewed publications and is a longtime editorial reviewer for the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Academic Medicine, and the Joint Commission Journal of Quality and Patient Safety. Among other accolades, Dr. Boudreaux is a fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, was named one of the Best Doctors in America for 14 consecutive years, and has consistently been featured as one of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Top 10 Teachers. He is a past president-elect of the Academy of Anesthesiology and has acted as treasurer for The Anesthesia Foundation since 2013. Of his many professional accomplishments, Dr. Boudreaux feels that his greatest achievements are his family and being able to watch the success of the 250 doctors he has helped train over the course of his teaching career.
