Anita K. Gregory, MD, FACS, FASCRS, Physician at St. Joseph Hospital Center for Cancer Prevention & Treatment, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in colon and rectal surgery.
Having accrued more than 35 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Gregory is renowned for her knowledge and practice in colon and rectal surgery, having worked out of her private practice in Orange, California since 2000. Likewise, she has been the medical director of the colorectal program and a physician consultant in the cancer genetics program at the St. Joseph Hospital Center for Cancer Prevention & Treatment since 2009 and 2002, respectively. Notably, Dr. Gregory was honored as the Physician of Excellence in Colon & Rectal Surgery in 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 by Orange Coast Magazine, as well as the recipient of the Resident Achievement Award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Attributing her success to her environment, she also credits the support of her family. Prior to her current roles, Dr. Gregory contributed to programs at Stanford University Medical Center, St. Mary’s Hospital in Connecticut, Yale University School of Medicine, Theodore Coutsoftides, MC, Inc. and more.
Upon earning a Bachelor of Arts in physiology and cell biology, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1985, Dr. Gregory went on to attain a Doctor of Medicine from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1990. She continued her medical requirements and was an intern and resident in general surgery at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center until 1992. In 1997, she was a fellow in colorectal surgery, a research fellow in vascular science and a resident in general surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Today, Dr. Gregory is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, as well as a past president of the Women Doctors of Orange County. She also maintains affiliation with the Society of Surgical Oncology, Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and Association of Women Surgeons. Looking ahead, Dr. Gregory aims to take part in more surgical mission trips and public awareness campaigns.
