Walter Paul Samora III, Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pediatric orthopedics.

Since his formative years, the human body had always intrigued Dr. Samora, leading him to pursue studies in the medical profession. Matriculating at West Virginia University, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in biology in 1998 and a Doctor of Medicine from the School of Medicine in 2004. Continuing his medical requirements, Dr. Samora completed a residency at West Virginia University in 2009 and a fellowship in general pediatric orthopedics at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 2010. He remains with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital today as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, in which he specializes in spine deformity and scoliosis.

Dr. Samora is exceptionally proud of his team’s endeavors in providing specialized care for children at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He cites that helping a child achieve a greater level of health is incredibly fulfilling and the reason why he chose his path. Alongside his primary role as a surgeon, Dr. Samora sits on the admissions committee of both the Ohio State program and the Doctor’s Hospital program. Part of his duty as a director is to interview prospective residents and guide them in deciding between two routes, either athletic or pediatric orthopedics. In the position since 2014, he considers it to be one of his greatest achievements, as his passion is to help educate residents.

Finding great success in his career, Dr. Samora was the recipient of the Orthopaedic Teacher of the Year Award in 2019. In addition, the Ohio State University Program named him Teacher of the Year in 2014 and the American Orthopaedic Association honored him as an Emerging Leader in Orthopaedics in 2013. Dr. Samora attributes his success to luck and having a goal-oriented personality. He also notes the importance of having the support of his family, his wife, Julie, and numerous mentors encouraged him to pursue orthopedics to the best of his ability. To remain abreast of his industry, Dr. Samora maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Scoliosis Research Society and the American Orthopaedic Association.
