Paul J. Newman MD, MBA, MS, Physician at the University of Maryland Capital Region Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in family medicine.
From watching his father excel as an obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Newman desired to spearhead his own career in the medical profession in his own right. Today, he excels as a faculty physician for the University of Maryland Capital Regional Health Prince George’s Hospital in the Department of Family Medicine. In his role, Dr. Newman serves as the attending physician for the inpatient medical service, inpatient rehabilitation, long-term acute care and palliative medicine service. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American Board of Family Physicians. Dr. Newman credits his early experience as a paramedic, along with his persistence and many mentors, for where he is today. Looking ahead, he aims to tend to palliative care in his community.
Dr. Newman received a Bachelor of Science in biology and finance from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Matriculating at Marymount University, he achieved a Master of Science and Master of Business Administration in healthcare management before obtaining a Doctor of Medicine from the Ross University School of Medicine. From there, Dr. Newman went on to complete an internship and residency in family medicine at the University of Maryland Capital Regional Health Prince George’s Hospital in Cheverly, Maryland. Additionally, he completed a hospice and palliative fellowship at George Washington University, obtaining hospice and palliative experience at the Veterans Affairs Washington D.C. and Children’s National Medical Center.
