Donald A. Bergman, MD, Endocrinologist and Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in endocrinology, diabetes and academia.

Drawing upon more than 45 years of experience in endocrinology, diabetes and academia, Dr. Bergman has excelled as a clinical professor of medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai since 2004 and in private practice in New York City since 1977. Prior to taking on his most recent professorship role, he served the Icahn School of Medicine as an associate clinical professor from 1997 to 2004, an assistant clinical professor from 1984 to 1997 and an instructor from 1977 to 1984. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College and a Doctor of Medicine from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, which he obtained in 1971, and completed a first-year residency in obstetrics-gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Bergman also completed an internship in internal medicine at Bellevue, New York University and VA Hospitals, along with a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in endocrinology at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Bergman is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a master of the American College of Endocrinology, where he is a former president. Further, he served as president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the Board of Regents of the American College of Endocrinology Foundation. He also was president of the Mount Sinai Alumni Association. During his tenure as president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, he notably founded the Power of Prevention, now known as Empower, a program that provides information to patients who have endocrine and metabolic disorders. Dr. Bergman has contributed his expertise to written works as well, including a chapter to “The Mount Sinai School of Medicine Complete Book of Nutrition” in 1999 and as co-editor of “Guide to Physical Activity” in 2006. Likewise, he has excelled as the executive editor of EmPower Magazine from 2010 to 2016. To attest to his success, Dr. Bergman has been highlighted in New York Magazine’s Best Doctors and in Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in America and in New York, and Super Doctors Honor Roll.
