Randy S. Adams, MD, FAAFP, Physician at Duke Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in family medicine.
Having accrued nearly 40 years of eminent medical experience, Dr. Adams is a renowned family medicine physician with Duke Health, a role he took on in 2016. Working with patients of all ages, his specialties encompass a wide range of issues from counseling depression to weight loss in children and adults. Prior, he practiced in Taiwan for 29 years through an overseas missionary fellowship, also serving its local church. Notably, Dr. Adams attained a Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 1980 and completed a residency in family practice at the Charlotte Medical Center and University of North Carolina Hospitals by 1983. Shortly thereafter, he became board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.
During his teenage years, Dr. Adams originally desired to spearhead a career in engineering upon obtaining an amateur radio license as a ham operator. However, he landed an after-school job at a pharmacy and enjoyed the mission of helping people lead healthier lives. Dr. Adams is proud to have continued to lead this mission as a medical professional, including his years in Taiwan in which he was honored with a Presidential Service Award. He recalls earning this accolade as the highlight of his career. Looking ahead, he plans to continue working until the age of 70 and lecture in churches and neighborhoods on diabetes. When he is not working, Dr. Adams enjoys long-distance running, hiking, camping, sailing, stargazing, ham radio, photography and playing the piano. He and his wife Janet have three adult sons, Nathan, Joshua and Isaac.
