During his upbringing in Peru, Dr. Morales-Galarreta felt a connection to the medical profession and desired to become a surgeon. However, when he attended medical school at the National University of Trujillo he felt a fascination for the mind of the patients, leading him to obtain a Doctor of Medicine in 1966. Between 1965 and 1972, he completed a residency in psychiatry and a supervisor psychiatry-training program at the Ministry of Public Health and served as an instructor of psychiatry at St. Marcos University. Upon his arrival to the United States in 1973, Dr. Morales-Galarreta went on to serve as a resident in psychiatry at Fairfield Hill Hospital in Connecticut and as a fellow in child psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri until 1976. He then served as an instructor of child psychiatry at the aforementioned institution until 1982.

Notably, Dr. Morales-Galarreta has flourished as a clinical professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at St. Louis University since 1996, having previously been an associate clinical professor from 1983 to 1996. Likewise, he worked at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute between 1982 and 2008 as director of the child development project, director of the child and adolescent psychotherapy program and director of child psychoanalysis. Dr. Morales-Galarreta graduated with a degree in child psychoanalysis from the institute in 1985. A fellow of the Peruvian Psychiatric Association, he holds membership with the American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society and St. Louis Psychiatric Society, of which he was president from 1997 to 1999, among other esteemed organizations. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Morales-Galarreta can also be found in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
