From watching her father and greatest mentor, Dr. Jonathan Aguocha, excel as a physician, Dr. Gab-Ojukwu became inspired to pursue a career in medicine. Earning a Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine from the University of Jos in her native Nigeria in 1995, she relocated to the United States to conduct clinical research in Southern California. Later, she completed her family medicine residency at MidMichigan Regional Medical Center in Midland, Michigan in 2007. Now board-certified in family practice, Dr. Gab-Ojukwu has served as a medical doctor for Kaiser Permanente in Colorado for the past 10 years. Kaiser Permanente’s integrated system includes clinical pharmacists, behavioral health specialists embedded in primary care, registered dietitians and special programs to support members with chronic health conditions.
Looking back on her career trajectory, Dr. Gab-Ojukwu is most proud to have made a profound difference and touch the lives of a broad spectrum of people. She cites the most rewarding part of her career is watching patients improve and heal from their ailments, whether that be from physical or mental health. Presently, she maintains affiliation with the American Association of Family Practice Physicians and the American Medical Association, as well as contributes to her local church and charities. Looking ahead, Dr. Gab-Ojukwu hopes to continue learning in her field and incorporate her newfound knowledge into her practice. She also plans to write a book on her career experiences and contribute to medical advocacy. In her spare time, Dr. Gab-Ojukwu enjoys traveling, swimming and volunteering.
