Pierre James Fisher Jr., MD, FACS, Physician and Surgeon at Surgeons Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in general surgery.

From watching his father excel as a physician, Dr. Fisher was inspired to become a medical professional from a young age. Backed by studies from Taylor University and Ball State University, he achieved a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University in 1956. He then went on to complete an internship and residency in surgery at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego by 1961, where he chose his lifelong specialization for surgery. He attained the rank of lieutenant commander with the U.S. Navy and resigned his commission in 1965. Progressing in his career, Dr. Fisher enjoyed a more than 45-year tenure career with Marion General Hospital, having achieved the title of chief of staff. In 1993, he retired from Surgeons Inc. as a president, as well as a physician and surgeon.

Finding great success throughout the course of his career, Dr. Fisher was the recipient of the Physicians Recognition Award from the American Medical Association in 1974, 1977, 1980, 1983 and 1989. Named to the Marion High School Hall of Distinction in 2011, he was also recognized for 50 Years in Medicine by the Indiana Medical Association in 2006. Along with his notable achievements, Dr. Fisher is particularly proud of his work in publishing five books, including “History of Grant County Medicine, 1830-1941″ from 2013 and “20th Century Grant County, Indiana, Medicine and Physician Profiles” from 2014. Along with his historical pieces, he served as vice president of the board of directors to the Charlotte County Cultural Center from 2005 to 2020. He had also been a trustee of Methodist Hospital from 1972 to 1994.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons and diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Fisher maintains membership with the American Medical Association and Grant County Medical Society, of which he was president in 1980. Over the years, he has also held executive titles with the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Kingsway County Club and Kingsway Golf Villas, noting that a highlight was serving as president of the North American Medical Golf Association from 1991 to 1993. Dr. Fisher also recalls serving as a recovery surgeon for NASA’s Project Mercury program was a pivotal moment in his career. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Fisher can also be found in various editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World.
