Alexander Francisco Bautista, MD, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Louisville, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in pain management and anesthesiology.
Delving into medicine in light of his desire to help others, Dr. Bautista first decided to engage himself in the field of anesthesiology. However, after realizing he wanted to connect with his patients on a deeper level, he ventured into pain management while still maintaining his skills as an anesthesiologist. Receiving a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines in 2002, he relocated to the United States and completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Louisville Hospital in Kentucky. Additionally, he finished a pain fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
As a medical examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Bautista served for four years as a medical director and assistant medical director in the state of Oklahoma. Since 2019, he has excelled as an associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Louisville, as well as a practicing anesthesiologist and pain management physician. Alongside these endeavors, Dr. Bautista also serves as the medical director of the Pain Clinic and fellowship program director.
Attributing his success to his self-motivation, Dr. Bautista recalls that his most notable achievement was maintaining an organized clinic in both Oklahoma and Kentucky. He looks forward to opening an additional clinic and grow his practice in January of 2021. To remain abreast of developments in the field, he maintains affiliation with the American Society of Regional Anesthesia, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Modulation Society and the American Society of Anesthesiology, who elected him a fellow.
In light of his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Bautista has received an Excellence in Teaching Award, as well as named Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year and Most Outstanding Resident. Looking toward the future, he intends to further his career and become one of the forerunners in the field of pain management and escalate his position within the University of Louisville. His goals for the future also include becoming a full professor and becoming active in national organizations such as ASRA and the ASA to name a few.
