In his youth, Dr. Wilt was always quick to help if he saw a person was injured, leading him to receive much encouragement to pursue a career in medicine. Matriculating at the University of Michigan, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in integrated pre-medical program studies in 1986 and a Doctor of Medicine in 1988. Fulfilling his medical requirements, he completed a residency at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center/St. Mary’s Health Services in 1991 and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at West Virginia University in 1995. Now certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Wilt has served as director and chief of the Department of Critical Care at Ascension Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo since 2009. Likewise, he is director of pulmonary and critical care, as well as an associate clinical professor of medicine, at the Western Michigan University School of Medicine.

Prior to his current roles, Dr. Wilt was assistant director of the medical intensive care unit and co-director of transitional residency at the Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in 1997 and 1998. Earlier, he was assistant director of the internal medicine residency at St. Mary’s Hospital from 1991 to 1992. Notably, Dr. Wilt has been the recipient of multiple teaching awards from medical students and residents and was granted an Outstanding Teaching Award in 2018 from the Western Michigan School of Medicine’s Internal Medicine Department. A fellow of the American College of Physicians and American College of Chest Physicians, Dr. Wilt was the 1991 National Clinical Vignette Winner and 1993 Young Investigators Award Winner, respectively. He also holds membership with the American Medical Association, American Thoracic Society and Society of Critical Care Medicine. To attest to his legacy, Dr. Wilt can also be found in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
