Wilbur J. Blechman, Retired Consultant at Lawton & Rhea Chiles Center for Health Mothers & Babies, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in rheumatology.
A graduate of Yale University, Dr. Blechman earned a Bachelor of Science in 1954. Soon thereafter, he received a Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia in 1957. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology.
At the start of his career, Dr. Blechman served a rheumatologist at an Internal Medicine and Rheumatology practice in North Miami from 1964 to 1994. During this time, he also contributed as a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Miami while serving as the director of the Resources for Children, Inc., until 1995. Soon thereafter, he contributed as a state health officer for the state of Florida, later accepting the position of senior consultant for the Florida Department of Health until 1998. Consequently, Dr. Blechman excelled as a courtesy professor of public health for the University of South Florida. He concluded his professional career as a consultant for Lawton & Rhea Chiles Center for Healthy Mothers & Babies until his retirement in 2001. Outside of his professional endeavors, he contributed the advisory committees of numerous programs.
For his contributions in the field, Dr. Blechman has been the recipient of numerous awards, notably Chile’s Advocacy Award from the United Way of Florida as well as the Nancy D. Thomas Collaboration Award in 2008 and 2018, respectively. Likewise, he has been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
