Title: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
Company: IMUA Orthopedics, Sports & Health
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
Nicole Yukiko Gesik, DO, Physician and Co-Founder at IMUA Orthopedics, Sports & Health, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in orthopedic sports medicine.
Inspired by the influence of her parents, who were both orthopedic physical therapists, Dr. Gesik was exposed to the field from an early age. With her brother, she got to change the tables, wipe the tables and schedule appointments, as well as interact with patients. She most enjoyed watching patients improve after their visits and soon decided to pursue a career medicine. In 2008, Dr. Gesik received a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Portland in Oregon. Notably, she went on to obtain a Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of Pikeville Kentucky College School of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky.
Continuing her medical requirements, Dr. Gesik was a resident at Oregon Health and Science University from 2008 to 2011 and a sports medicine fellow at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2012. Today, Dr. Gesik is a certified functional medicine practitioner by the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). With IFM, she has also studied advanced clinical training in pediatrics and reversing cognitive decline, applying functional medicine in clinical practice, cardiometabolic advanced practice, and bioenergetics, among others. Additionally, she is algorithm and diagnostic level certified by Thought Field Therapy.
Since 2013, Dr. Gesik has notably served as the co-founder and physician of IMUA Orthopedics, Sports & Health in Hawaii. In her role, she provides tailored care that pinpoints the underlying causes of medical and musculoskeletal issues and specializes in orthopedic sports medicine, functional medicine, and osteopathic manipulative medicine. Prior, from 2012 to 2013, Dr. Gesik was a medical consultant at the University of Hawaii Athletics. Earlier, from 2002 to 2004, she served as a pilates instructor at Pacific Northwest Pilates, as she is a certified mat and reformer instructor by the STOTT Pilates Institute.
To remain abreast of her industry, Dr. Gesik maintains professional affiliation with the American Orthopedics Association. Looking back, she attributes her success to her parents and mentors. In addition, she credits her educational platform and the adversarial health moments she went through, further learning what it feels like to be in the patient’s chair. With this sentiment, Dr. Gesik believes everyone has a purpose and God has given her a life of service, which she sees as a vocation rather than a profession. As she progresses in her career, she hopes to expand the model of medicine and integrate other tools to give patients more healing options. In her free time, Dr. Gesik enjoys cooking, bodyboarding, journaling, going to the beach, and spending time with family.
