James Folger Carter, MD, Obstetrician, Gynecologist, and Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
Influenced by his pediatrician, Dr. Miller, Dr. Carter decided to pursue medicine at a young age. Following the path to achieve his goal, he attended the University of South Carolina. In 1971, he earned a Bachelor of Science, which provided him with the foundation to acquire an MD in 1975. Shortly thereafter, he was certified in obstetrics and gynecology, alongside earning a medical license in the state of South Carolina. Prior to beginning his career, Dr. Carter completed an internship at the Richland Memorial Hospital and a residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center.
In 1990, Dr. Carter was hired as the chief of obstetrics and gynecology at the Georgetown Memorial Hospital. He proceeded to work with the Charleston Memorial Hospital and St. Francis Hospital, taking on the role of the director of the advanced gynecological laparoscopy laboratory in 2001 at the latter. Outside of his medical ventures, Dr. Carter has excelled as an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical University of South Carolina since 1992. A member of the United States Navy, he has received multiple awards in gynecologic surgery throughout his career. Dr. Carter has additionally shared his expert insights through contributing to myriad articles in various medical journals. As a further testament to his success, he is featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
