James Bobbitt Powell, Chief Executive Officer at Tripath Imaging, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in clinical laboratory sciences.
An experienced pathologist and health facility administrator, Dr. Powell has served as the owner and chief executive officer of Biomed Labs from 1969 until his retirement 2010. Earlier in his career, he served in positions of high authority with Biomedical Reference Labs, Roche Biomedical Laboratories and Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings, now known as LabCorp, for nearly two decades. Currently, Dr. Powell works as a consultant in the field.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Powell pursued his education at the Virginia Military Institute and received a Bachelor of Arts in 1960. Subsequently, he attended a Duke University, where he attained a Doctor of Medicine in 1964. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship at Duke University Medical Center and residency work at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York and Englewood Hospital in New Jersey. A veteran of the United States Army, Dr. Powell served as a major in the medical corps from 1969 until 1972.
A respected voice in the field and a diplomate of the American Board of Pathology, Dr. Powell has contributed numerous scholarly articles in various peer-reviewed journals throughout his career. Outside of his professional circles, Dr. Powell is active as a member of the Alamance Country Club. He is a passionate participant in tennis and enjoys learning about U.S. military history.
