Richard William Laherty, MBBS, FRACS, Neurosurgeon at Princess Alexandra Hospital Brisbane, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neurosurgery.
Dr. Laherty began his journey to his career by earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1996. He then became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons at the University of Queensland, finishing in 2009. Upon completion of his degree, Dr. Laherty became a spine surgery fellow with St. Vincent’s & Concord Hospitals in 2009. He then joined Princess Alexandra in 2009 and remains with the hospital to this day as a neurosurgeon. From 2009 to 2010, he was a spine trauma fellow. He also held the roles of visiting medical officer of neurosurgery, consultant neurosurgeon, medical spine surgeon and deputy director. Since 2002, he has been a senior instructor of a critically ill surgical patient course and since 2009, an instructor of early management severe trauma course for Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Civically, Dr. Laherty is currently on the board of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Since 2018, he has also been on the advisory committee of The Therapeutic Goods and Administration for Medical Devices. As a testament to his success, Dr. Laherty received a Commendation for Teaching from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2014. He has been inducted into various esteemed organizations including, the Society of Lateral Access Surgery, North American Spine Society, Australian Medical Society, Australasian Trauma Society, Spine Society of Australasia, Neurosurgeon Society of Australasia, The Therapeutic Goods and Administration (TGA) and the Workers Compensation Tribunal. He is also listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who in the World.
