Backed by a Bachelor of Science from Colgate University, Dr. Cohen attended New York University and earned an MD in 1963. In the years following his graduation, he enlisted with the United States Army. He served as a major from 1969 until 1971, going on to acquire a position as an attending surgeon at Cedars/Sinai Medical Center in 1978. He had previously been certified in vascular surgery and as a diplomat by the American Board of Surgery. By 1985, he had taken on a parallel position as an attending surgeon at St. Vincent’s Hospital Medical Center. Today, he continues to hold both positions, consistently demonstrating excellence in each role for over 40 years.
An active member of his industry, Dr. Cohen maintains affiliation with numerous professional organizations. These include, but are not limited to, the American College of Surgeons, the Southern California Vascular Surgery Society, and the International Society for Cardiovascular Surgery. Looking back on his accomplishments, he considers the highlight of his career to be the ten years he spent as chief of vascular surgery at Mount Sinai.
A well-respected individual in his field, Dr. Cohen would recommend that those aspiring to become a surgeon be prepared to work hard. In the future, he looks forward to spending more time with his wife and daughter. As a testament to Dr. Cohen’s success, he is featured in the 24th volume of Who’s Who in America and the 24th and 25th editions of Who’s Who in the West. He has additionally received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
