John J. Godleski, MD, Professor of Pathology Emeritus at Harvard Medical School, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
During his time at King’s College, Dr. Godleski was torn between becoming a doctor or pursuing a PhD in research. However, after meeting a pathologist and discovering all the wonders of the field, he knew that he wanted to pursue a career in pathology. In the following years, he earned an MD from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to complete his required internship and fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Harvard School of Public Health, respectively. He was then certified in pathological anatomy by the American Board of Pathology in 1975.
From 1978 until 2015, Dr. Godleski excelled as an associate professor at Harvard Medical School within Harvard University. During those years, he additionally served as a commissioned officer for the United States Public Health Service. Further, throughout his career, he contributed to over 170 peer-reviewed articles in a multitude of professional journals. As a testament to his success, he has been abundantly awarded. In 1978, he earned the Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. Shortly thereafter, he earned the Honorary Lifetime Fellowship from the Polish Society of Pathologists. More recently, in 2019, he was honored with an Outstanding Alumni Professional Achievement Award from King’s College.
Looking back on his illustrious career, Dr. Godleski attributes his success to thoroughly enjoying his work. He additionally credits the mentors who inspired him to succeed, most notably Joseph Leighton and Dr. Ramzi Cotran. He considers one of his greatest accomplishments to be his experience in having his research paper named as the top research paper by a medical student in the country. Further, he feels honored to have received over 30 research grants from Harvard University throughout his career. In recognition of his many accomplishments, Dr. Godleski is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the East.
