David C. Flanigan, MD, Associate Professor of Orthopedics at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in orthopedics.

Since taking care of his grandparents who had various health problems, Dr. Flanigan knew he wanted to pursue a career as a physician. He received a Bachelor of Science in biology and biological sciences from Wheaton College in 1994 and went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa Roy J. & Lucille Carver College of Medicine in 1998. Continuing his medical school requirements, Dr. Flanigan completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in 2003 and a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2004. Dr. Flanigan is currently a faculty member at Ohio State University, serving as a team physician and director of the cartilage restoration program since 2005 and 2008, respectively. Additionally, since 2005, he has been an associate professor within the department of orthopedics at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.

In his illustrious career, Dr. Flanigan has been the recipient of MOON Group Awards, as well as multiple research awards. A devout Christian, he has volunteered on various mission trips to Jamaica and has written more than 220 articles and 10 book chapters in the medical field. He attributes the success of his career to his parents providing the means to fulfill his dreams and instilling in him the sense that he could do anything he set his mind to. He also gives thanks to great mentors, including Dr. Whit Ewing, for incredible professional input. To remain up to date with changes and advancements in his field, Dr. Flanigan presently holds membership with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine, International Cartilage Regeneration Society, Mid-America Orthopedic Association and Orthopedic Research Society. Looking ahead, he plans to continue to lead the charge in innovation research and mentor future orthopedic leaders.
