Enrico Ascher, MD, Chief of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapies at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in vascular surgery and medical education.

Dr. Ascher was attracted to a career in medicine as a result of his desire to help others. In 1974, he earned a Doctor of Medicine from Federal University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the following years, he completed a residency in general surgery at the New York Medical College, as well as a clinical vascular fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center within the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Through his studies, he found that he was best suited to specialize in vascular medicine, as he could fulfill his wishes of working in different fields within one specialty. He additionally liked that it was a relatively new field, which would enable him to make his mark on medicine.

From 1987 until 1989, Dr. Ascher worked as an attending surgeon at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He remained there until 1989, which is when he became the director of vascular surgery at Maimonides Medical Center. In 2011, after gaining a multitude of experiences, he began exploring medical education as a professor of surgery at the New York University School of Medicine. That same year, Dr. Ascher took on the role of chief of vascular surgery and endovascular therapies at Langone Hospital within New York University. He remains in each of these roles today, continuing to establish his reputation as one of the best vascular specialists in New York. In the coming years, he plans on continuing to analyze the indication for a procedure to diminish the total number of procedures being done. He is working on identifying the issues to try and prevent the need for surgery. As a testament to his success, Dr. Ascher is featured in the 68th edition of Who’s Who in America.
