Edward Paul, Lecturer and Psychiatrist, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in psychiatry.
Supported by an impressive educational background, Dr. Paul has excelled as an addiction psychiatrist for more than three decades. A graduate of Harvard University, he first earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1978. He further received a Doctor of Medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in 1982. In 1987, he became a board-certified psychiatrist through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Furthermore, Dr. Paul has completed two level-2 trainings for Internal Family Systems Therapy. One is in addiction eating disorders and the second focused on deepening and expanding.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Paul specialized in treating comorbid conditions, such as anxiety, trauma, and mood disorders at his private practice in Nassau County and Manhattan. Additionally, he contributed as a psychiatrist for the Alcoholism Unit at the Bellevue Hospital Center from 1986 to 2008. In the past, he contributed as a Clinical Associate Professor at New York University’s Langone Medical Center, where he supervised addiction fellows. Today, he contributes as a lecturer throughout New York, where he provides his expert knowledge on post-traumatic stress, anxiety disorders, and family systems therapy.
Dr. Paul is one of very few doctors trained in the internal family systems model of psychotherapy. He offers group therapy using this model while providing hypnosis as part of the treatment for tobacco cessation. Additionally, he offers genetic testing. Passionate about helping, learning, and teaching others his psychiatric methods, Dr. Paul feels he is able to help patients during their times of need as an addiction psychiatrist.
To remain abreast of trends and developments in his field, Dr. Paul maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and the American Psychiatric Association. In 2019, he was named to Top 100 Physicians, and in 2020 Castle Connolly named him a Top Doctor of the East Coast. Likewise, Dr. Paul was the recipient of accolades from New York Metro Area’s Top Doctors, Castle Connolly Medical Limited, and U.S. News and World Report L.P. Outside of work, he enjoys swing dancing, writing, and improv acting in his spare time.
