Dr. Marion Somers, Gerontologist at Dr. M. Media, LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in family therapy.
Growing up in East Harlem, New York, Dr. Somers developed a strong work ethic and a passion for helping those in her community, essentially guiding her to her career as a gerontologist. Longing to receive an education in order to live comfortably outside a tenement dwelling, Dr. Somers went on to achieve a BA from the City College of New York, with honors, an MS in recreational therapy from Lehman College and a PhD in human and organizational development from the Fielding Graduate School. Today, she is the co-founder of Dr. M. Media, LLC, and founder and director of Hunter College’s Professional Geriatric Care Management Certificate Program at the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging and Longevity. Since 2015, Dr. Somers has served as the director of education at UI Medical, LLC and is a former coordinator and staff trainer at Hasbro. Additionally, she previously owned and operated a private geriatric care management center for 50 years.
An avid researcher, reader and writer, Dr. Somers is the author of, “Elder Care Made Easier: Doctor Marion’s 10 Steps to Help You Care for an Aging Loved One,” “The Home: A Brief Moment in Time” and “Adjustment to Retirement as Measured by Self-Actualization and Personality Types.” She has appeared on The Today Show, ABC News Now, Good Morning America, Nightly News, NPR, Retirement Living TV, and numerous local news stations, and also served as host of the radio show “Doctor Marion Minute” and as a columnist for Grand Magazine. Over the years of her career, she has been the recipient of Mature Media Awards, a National Therapeutic Recreation Association Award, and the College Alumni Achievement Award. In addition to her therapy career, Dr. Somers was the inventor and manufacturer of QuickChange Wrap and was involved in producing “Companion Pets” at Hasbro, life-like interactive animatronic pets created to bring companionship, comfort, happiness, and fun to aging loved ones. Dr. Somers and her accomplishments can also be found in various editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.
