Shawky Z.A. Badawy, MD, gynecologist and professor at SUNY Upstate Medical University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in gynecology and obstetrics.
Impressed by the thought processes OBGYNs he learned during his years of education, Dr. Badawy was inspired to dive in and pursue research and service in the field. He pursued an education at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in surgery as well as an MB, both in 1958. While at the university he spent time as an intern, resident in obstetrics and gynecology, and research fellow. Dr. Badawy concluded his studies at the institution in 1963, graduating with a master’s degree in surgery, later to return to serve as a clinical instructor, lecturer and assistant professor within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Additionally, he served as a postdoctoral fellow in reproductive physiology and endocrinology at the Rockefeller University, a senior residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the SUNY Upstate Medical University and was enrolled in the Military Academy of Medicine from 1981 to 1982.
Dr. Badawy has dedicated 45 years of his career to the SUNY Upstate Medical University in which he has served as the director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology since 1975, as a professor within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1981 and as a professor within the Department of Pathology since 1993. Beginning his tenure with the university in 1973, he has also served as an assistant and associate professor, interim chairman, director, and chairman of the residency program and chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Badawy is backed by a 2002 award from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics and was notably inducted into Leading Physicians of the World in 2014. To attest to his accomplishments, Dr. Badawy can also be found in the 64th Edition of Who’s Who in America.
