David S. Strayer, MD, PhD, Attending Pathologist and Professor at Jefferson Medical College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in medical education and pathology.
Dr. Strayer was inspired to pursue a career in medicine after watching his father lose his battle with an unforgiving illness. He wanted to understand the complicated nature of varying diseases and do everything in his power to mitigate them. He first pursued a formal education at Cornell University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1970. In the following years, he earned a PhD in pathology and an MD from the University of Chicago. Dr. Strayer went on to complete a residency at Washington University in 1979, which qualified him to officially enter the professional realm of health care.
As a diagnostic pathologist and medical investigator, Dr. Strayer found himself gravitating towards teaching positions. He loved to work with medical students, which is what prompted many of his professional choices. Presently, he is a professor at Jefferson Medal College in Pennsylvania. In the past, he has worked at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Yale University School of Medicine and Washington University, among several others. He has additionally authored over 150 research articles for myriad professional journals and 200 abstracts for various scientific meetings. As a testament to his success, Dr. Strayer is featured in the first edition of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. More recently, in 2019, his accomplishments were recognized with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
